Reds Blog #3 – The Day CES Broke The Sound Barrier.

Fast forward to the 9th inning…

Reds trail by two runs and who else but Jonathan India steps up to the plate. The guy who everyone talked about trading ALL off-season. What was a lengthy at bat, foul off after foul off, fighting pitch after pitch, doubles down the line. Two outs, India on second, and in steps Will Benson. What does he do, hits an absolute NUKE to center field to tie the game. But wait, it gets better. Now due up, Christian Encarnacion-Strand who is 0 for his last 12 plate appearances. On the second pitch of the at bat, he puts a line drive in the seats in left, and the rally Reds go on to win the series opener vs the Nationals.

What. A. Game.

It seemed identical to the way this team won last year. Bullpen doesn’t do their job, and now the offense is left to pick up the pieces. Today it was Buck Farmer and Tejay Antone. Antone didn’t even make it out of the inning, giving up a hit, a run and two walks. Farmer went one inning, giving up two hits, one run, one walk, one K and a HR. I’m just expecting the pen to be unreliable at this point if it isn’t Fernando Cruz going out to pitch. I’ll give Lucas Sims his flowers today, who got the win, going one inning and not allowing a hit on 12 pitches.

Winners of the day:

  • Jonathan India – GAMER
  • Will Benson – GAMER
  • CES – HERO
  • Martinez – kept the Reds in the game
  • Fraley – 3 hit day

Losers of the day:

  • Tejay Anyone
  • Buck Farmer

Reds will now hit a very tough stretch of games that first start out in Philadelphia on Monday. This opening day series was huge to go get as the Nationals will not be good this year. You need to take care of teams like that if you want a say in who wins the division, and who wants to play in October. The Reds should be playing baseball in October this year, so I expect them to win against teams like the Nationals. BOTTOM LINE!!

Go Reds. #ATOBTTR
